About Dr. Garrity

Dr. Linda I. Garrity is a licensed Ph.D. Cinical Psychologist and a Certified Psychoanalyst.
She has provided psychotherapy and psychoanalysis for the last 14 years to Madison-area and Madison Wisconsin
residents. Her extensive experience with both psychotherapy and psychoanalysis enables her to offer clients a variety
of treatment options.
Training:
Dr. Garrity completed a 9-year post-doctoral training program in Psychoanalysis in 2000 at one of the best
training programs in the U.S, The Institute for Psychoanalysis,
Chicago, IL. After graduating she attained Certification as a Psychoanalyst from the
American Psychoanalytic Association.
She later was approved as a Training and
Supervising Psychoanalyst for the Wisconsin Psychoanalytic Institute
where she has been teaching classes to mental health professionals in training to become psychoanalysts.

As a Clinical Associate Professor in the University of Wisconsin-Madison Medical School's Department of Psychiatry, Dr.
Garrity has been supervising advanced psychiatric residents in psychoanalytically-oriented psychotherapy.
Experience: Prior to pursuing psychoanalytic training, and after receiving her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology
after 7 years of doctoral training, Dr. Garrity was in private practice as a psychotherapist. Dr. Garrity founded the
Center for Counseling & Psychological Services, a State-Certified Clinic in downtown Madison, at which she has been
providing psychotherapy, psychoanalysis, and consultation to clients, and psychotherapy supervision to mental health
professionals. Prior to founding the Center for Counseling, Dr. Garrity was the Director of Psychology, and Director
of the Pre-doctoral Clinical Psychology Internship Program, at The Mendota Mental Health Institute in Madison. She
served in this position for 7 years.
Scholastic Attainments: She has published and given presentations in the areas of Psychoanalysis, Self-Esteem,
Creativity, and Early Identification and Treatment of Parent-Child Bonding Patterns. She holds memberships in
The American Psychoanalytic Association, The
American Psychological Association (and in the distinguished Section I of the Division
of Psychoanalysis), The Wisconsin Psychological Association,
The Chicago Psychoanalytic Society, The Chicago Association for Psychoanalytic
Psychology, The Wisconsin Psychoanalytic Society, and
The International Psychoanalytical Association.
Licensure and Certification:
She is a graduate of The Institute for Psychoanalysis, one of the accredited training institutes of The American
Psychoanalytic Association. She is licensed as a Psychologist by the Wisconsin Psychology Examining Board, the Board
responsible for credentialing and regulating psychologists. She is listed in the
National Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology, the most
prominent credentialing organization which evaluates the education, training and experience of licensed psychologists
to determine if they meet their standards.
